NEMA's Leadership in Emergency Management

    NEMA's award winning research and policy analysis provides information that is only available by NEMA such as information on state emergency management agencies (organizational structure, salaries, staffing, job descriptions, and more).  

    NEMA's publications include the NEMA Biennial Report and the State Director Annual Survey.

    NEMA proactively works on current emergency management related issues, Congressional activities, bill analyses, legislative reports, and more, to provide clear and concise information to our membership. 

    NEMA has partnered with IAEM to ensure the Emergency Management Performance Grants (EMPG) Program remain at steady state funding

    NEMA's membership includes state and local government personnel, federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector, and individuals who work in emergency management.  This diversity allows NEMA to engage in issues that span all sectors: private, federal, and public.

NEMA Forums

Held twice a year, the NEMA Leadership and Policy Forums provide the venue to work collaboratively on current issues that affect the emergency management community. Members receive discounts on registration and exhibits.

Legislative Activities

NEMA is a recognized source of information on state emergency management - providing comments and testimony to Congress on issues of national importance.  

Staff Support

With offices in Washington DC and Lexington, KY, NEMA's staff works closely with Congress, FEMA, DHS, stakeholder organizations, and the emegency management community to provide expert support on all issues.

Emergency Management Assistance Compact

NEMA administers the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a nationally adopted mutual aid agreement between states.  Governance of EMAC is through NEMA's membership, the Directors of the State Emergency Management Agencies.  Learn more about EMAC by watching this short video.
